Getting fit for the race

Single-handed sailing, and even more so, single-handed racing, is physically very demanding. The race is two years out and I have to admit that I am not in shape for the SAC, not by a mile. Busted my knee a couple of years back and still need to regain full confidence in its mobility and stability. Plus, I had gained a LOT of weight during the pandemic (so, totally not my fault) and my fitness level had totally gone to shit. To get my body where it needs to be,  with the help and guidance of my wife, an avid long distance runner and “food nerd” plus a personal fitness coach, I have created an exercise plan and diet that is designed to get me into an optimal physical condition when it is time to cast off in Sagres.
